The Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Areas’ Department of Rural Development has been working on development initiatives in the Bago Region.
With the goal of closing the development gap between urban and rural regions, the projects included the building of production roads, bridges, water supply, rural electrification projects, and the Mya Sein Yaung village development project.
“A Gravel Route was erected as the production road of Zaung Tuu canal in ThaBaung of Phayagyi Village,” stated Win Sandar, head of Bago Township Rural Development Department. The project began on January 1st, with a surplus of 57.33 million kyats from the regional development budget. On February 27th, it was completely finished. The road is 4,800 feet in length, 12 feet in width, and 9 inches in thickness.
It will help six surrounding communities, 2,700 acres of agriculture, 5,500 houses, and a total population of around 27,000 people.”
With about 1.2 billion kyats from the Union budget, the department has already completed 26 roads and 23 bridges in 12 townships, as well as 12 production roads, by 2022.
Myo Aung, the head of the Bago Region Rural Development Department, said “Due to the lack of production routes in the villages, farmers must incur additional expenses during harvest season to carry paddy from the fields to specified locations. As a result, we constructed the production roadways in order to cut expenses.
In addition, the Mya Sein Yaung project is being carried out at a budget of 540 million dollars. We spent 20.54 million kyats from the Union Fund on capacity development training for our staff and villagers. A budget of 737.85 million kyats was set aside to provide power in rural regions, with the infrastructure being installed in 62 villages across 21 townships.”
This year, the Regional Government spent more than 5.9 billion kyats on development projects in the area, with funds coming from both the regional and union budgets.
